Baptismal and Marriage Records
Bitmap (bmp) Images

This web page is devoted to pictures of actual documents, including both baptismal records and marriage records from parish books. If a person is deceased, the priest entered a small cross (+) in front of the name, or used the word "zesnulém" which means deceased.

The records from Europe were sent on a microfilm. We gratefully acknowledge the University of Nebraska at Omaha library for its microfilm to digital image workstation, which was used to convert the microfilm. The resulting images are TIFF files. At my desk, I could not view the images over the Internet, but at the teacher's desk in the classroom, the images could be viewed over the Internet. It must be a function of whichever operating system is installed. If the images will not open in your browser, you can download the TIFF images, and then view them with the Windows Photo Editor. Note: the images are quite large, with most of them being about 1/2 meg in size. Downloading on a dial-up connection will take a LONG time. Click here to switch to the TIFF versions of the records. To download a file, try right-clicking on the link, and then select Save.

The TIFF files were converted to bitmap files. It appears that you CAN view the bitmaps with Internet Explorer. Just click on the link, and select "Open" if a prompt appears. These files are larger than the TIFF images; most are over 1 meg in size.

The process has not been tested on Apple computers or on older versions of Internet Explorer or on Netscape.
